A mother's love (a post from May 2014)

This past weekend Drew and I spent our days celebrating our mothers and grandmothers.  Much of the week before, we chatted about ways we could honor our mothers through gifts.  There was much thought and much discussion about how to show love to each of our moms.

The Woody women the day before Ann Hughes was married!

As we made our way back to our home Sunday afternoon, I realized how blessed we were to be able to spend so much time with our families.  Over the course of 36 hours, we spent time with my grandmother (and mother) in the hospital, visited Gran (Drew's paternal grandmother) and spent time with Drew's mother's family (including an uncle we had not seen since we got married in 2010).  What a blessing it is to live in Winston-Salem- an hour and ten minutes from Hickory, 55 minutes from Reidsville and an hour from Martinsville.  We can get to any of our relatives in a short amount of time.

Despite the fact that our weekend of celebrating our mothers started in a small hospital room in Reidsville, we were thankful.  We spent time laughing with my grandmother.  What a relief it was to see her in good spirits and doing relatively well.  Her face lit up when "Andrew" came in the room.  She loves my husband- in a way that truly warms my heart.  I'm just glad that he could go with me to spend time with her and my mother.

A selfie we took at the Hughes reunion.  She got a kick out of that!

Saturday afternoon we took off for Hickory.  We made a surprise visit with Gran, Drew's paternal grandmother.  That woman inspires me.  I love how she loves life and truly lives each moment to it's fullest.  She is full of life and loves to spend time with her family.

We had dinner that evening at Drew's mother's parent's home.  It was a good size crowd for dinner.  What a sweet evening to celebrate Granmommy and Bobbie- so thankful for the opportunity to celebrate each of them.   I am blessed by a mother-in-love who loves me like her own and would doing anything for me.  I am thankful for the way she raised her boys.

We closed out the weekend back in Reidsville at the hospital with GrandBecky and my Mom.  We got there mid-afternoon.  We gave grandmother some time and took Mom out to one of our favorite places- the Celtic Fringe.  I am thankful that I have a flexible mother- one that can be celebrated wherever and whenever.  My Mom inspires me and I hope she knows it.  She is taught me how to be strong.  She proves to me over and over again that she loves me unconditionally- despite my mess.  She's been there for me through thick and thin and I know she always will be.

What a sweet weekend that we will cherish for years to come.  I am so blessed by all of the role models God has placed in my life.
