'tis the season

One of my fondest memories of growing up in good ol' Rockingham County was attending the Junior Miss scholarship program.  From the time I was a little girl, Mom would take my sister and I to the programs each year.  We cheered on babysitters as small children and then began to cheer on our friends as we grew older.  My sister and I both participated in the program and loved our experience. Even though neither of us won, we got the meaning of the program.

After I graduated from college, I started a program in Charlotte (with the help of my sister).  I only chaired the program for 2 years because I decided to move back to the Winston area.  I loved every moment of my time as a chairman.  I had so much fun with my girls as we traveled the great state of North Carolina.

My first representative- Beth Smith!  Love this girl!

Both my girls- Amber and Beth!

Some of our committee with our girls-
Gabi, Stephanie, Annie, Amber, MT, Beth

I was asked in 2011 to serve on the State Executive Committee.  My responsibilities include special events and operations.  The biggest part of my role is to feed the girls.  I coordinate all of our meals throughout the week and of course keep a good stock pile of snacks.

Our state program is held the first weekend in February each year.  For the two months after, I find myself traveling I-40 a lot- traveling to local programs almost every weekend.  It's that season and my sweet husband is so patient and understanding.  He knows that when Saturday afternoon arrives, I am going to be hoping in the car to travel.

Today is our third program for the class of 2015.  I will be traveling to Greenville to celebrate their outgoing representative (Becker!) and to see them name their two new representatives.

Some of the Distinguished YW of NC Class of 2014 at the
this year's Rockingham County program celebrating Haley Roberts!

These two think they're funny taking selfies on my phone :)

Last weekend in Edgecombe County celebrating the one and only Katie King!

I'm thankful for those that coordinated my local program and for all that they instilled in me as a young woman.  I am thankful for the opportunity to pay it forward and encourage some of the best women of our state to be their best selves.
