reflections from the kitchen (#8)

Drew and I have not been 'very good' the past few weeks about planning our meals.  By the time we get home and settled it is after 7 and we are just starting to think about what to eat.  Anyways, this week I started planning Sunday afternoon and I must say planning pays off.

Tuesday evening was a special time in the kitchen for me.  If you know me, at all, you know I like to spend time in the kitchen.  I love baking and cooking- especially for those I love.  I came home from work around 5:45 and went directly to the kitchen.  I put on some music and got into my zone.  The more time I spent the more I realized that my menu reflected things I had learned from both of my grandmothers.  As I cooked, I reflected on them and the blessing they were to so many.

Grandma Jennie with her 3 granddaughters!

She really knew how to give the best hugs.

My Grandma Jeannie was known for her meatloaf.  Oh my- I loved going to her house and eating her meatloaf.  It had such a great flavor.  It was just one of the many things that she made that I love- let's be honest, I loved everything she made (well except for the collard greens).  My GrandBecky loved to make green beans!  She would let them simmer all day.  I don't know what she did to make them taste the way she did, but they were delicious.  They had a little sweetness- everything she cooked had a little sugar- that was her secret.

She truly completed us!

My GrandBecky was a classy lady. Always.

I am thankful for the chance to spend time in the kitchen and to reflect on the love my grandmothers shared with me through their love of cooking.
